Do You Know Your Retro???

OK, so the time has come for agencies that currently maintain traffic signs to have a management method in place so that you can maintain minimum reflectivity of your sign panels.  If you have not already started your inventory or if it consists of chicken scratches on a vendor-supplied notepad that you picked up at your last conference.... never fear.  Cloudpoint Geographics, Inc has completed several local agency sign inventories and has the professional experience to provide you with a thorough and complete package.  We come to your site and perform a complete analysis of your current traffic signs including information on the following:

  • A complete field inventory of existing signs currently under city jurisdiction using GPS assisted data collection with ESRI ArcMap and ArcPad GIS software
  • Summary of all signs including ID number, quantity, street name, description, MUTCD code, size, support type, sheeting type, height, & width.
  • A map book (color, 11x17, bound with hard cover) identifying each of the sign locations with the corresponding ID number (click here to see a sample inventory)
  • A full report including recommendations for improving the safety and efficiency of your agency's roadway/street network.
  • A recommended sign inventory management method as required by the MUTCD

Slow & steady.

Keeping up a blog to let people know what's going on sounds easy to do but I am learning that it can be difficult to stay consistent.  Things are going well at Cloudpoint with projects continuing to surface.  Just completed a sign inventory for Gold Township in Bureau County and have had several calls from other agencies requesting the same.  Having an engineering background in transportation has been a great advantage in this area.  Sign inventories, evaluation of software, Christmas cards going out, and marketing trips have been keeping me busy lately.

Some people have asked what it is that I actually do (Including my father-in-law in his own tactful way).  The best way to describe it is GIS (Geographic Information Systems).  For public works, transportation, and utilities, colleges, parks, etc.  Anyone that has numerous facilities that they need to track and manage within a geographic boundary.  For example right now I am working with a public utility on enhancing their map books and implementing better practices for their GIS system.  I am also in the process of evaluating two kinds of software, ESRI Arc Editor, and Que Coherent LP360.  It might sound link technical mumbo-jumbo but I think its a lot of fun.

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and remember that Jesus is the reason for the season!

Conference success!

Cloudpoint Geographics had a successful outing at the IACE conference tonight.  Thanks to all who came by to visit.

Prepped and Ready!

Thanks to Amy Spangler and the gang at A Perfect Promotion in Morton, IL for their excellent work on getting my conference display in short time.  Today we will be going to the Illinois Association of County Engineers annual Fall Conference at the Pere Marquette in Peoria, IL where we will show off our display and network with many old friends and colleagues.  Megan and I will be wearing matching shirts for the first time ever!  Normally a fashion faux pas, she wouldn't be caught dead wearing the same shirt as me but in this case it's not only acceptable, but professional.  Stop by from 4-7pm today to see our booth or stay tuned for pics.
